A BALIFF was set upon and attacked with a chair as he tried to collect payment from a town centre hair salon, it has been claimed.

Police say the bailiff went into Fanty Fashion in Bradshawgate when he is thought to have been attacked by a woman and man.

The Bolton News understands he was hit over the head with a chair and was left with cuts above one of his eyes.

Police were called to the shop, which specialises in hair extensions, wigs, afro hair, beauty products and creams, store just after 1pm today.

A police spokesman said: “Two people, a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault (actually bodily harm).”

When The Bolton News contacted the shop, a woman said she did not want to comment but confirmed the salon was still open.

A witness said: “I didn't actually see the assault myself but I did see the bailiff with what looked to be a deep cut on his forehead and further cuts on his arms and elbows.

"I don't know who called the police but the bailiff did get back into his van on the phone after exiting the shop.”

Another witness said: “The bailiff was touching his face afterwards and a lot of people were looking at what happened.”

The bailiff did not go to hospital.

The two people were taken to custody to be quizzed by police.
