A TOWN centre takeaway could lose its late-night licence for serving pizzas and kebabs past its opening hours.

After being called out to “numerous” incidents at Spice Hut in Bradshawgate police have been monitoring its opening hours.

Using CCTV cameras they found it had served takeaways for hungry punters as late as 5.48am — it is supposed to close at 4am.

After sending letters to the owners telling them to keep their opening hours, police have now asked Bolton Council to revoke its premises licence, which could force it to close.

In a letter to Bolton Council’s licencing committee, which will decide on the application at a town hall meeting today, a police spokesman said there was “unacceptable levels of crime and disorder and public nuisance” outside the Spice Hut.

He added: “On reviewing police incidents it has become apparent that these premises routinely operates outside of their permitted hours.

“They have received two police advice letters informing them of their conditions.”

But police say bosses at the takeaway ignored the advice and just two days after they received their second letter again flouted the conditions granted by the licensing authority and remained open until at least 4.30am.

The spokesman said: “Having looked at the incidents reported, it is the opinion of the police that the current premises licence holder is not capable of promoting the objectives and applying any conditions.”

Spice Hut is currently allowed to open until 3am on Monday to Thursday, until 4am on Friday and Saturday and 2am on Sunday.

It has a hygiene rating of two out of a possible five following an inspection in December.

Councillors will decide whether to revoke Spice Hut’s licence today.
