An inquest into the deaths of a Leigh taxi driver and his passenger have been adjourned while a case is pursued in the criminal courts.

A pre-inquest review at Bolton Coroner’s Court heard that a man is due to appear in court on June 30 in connection with the deaths of Kenneth Grimshaw, aged 59, and Emma Houghton, aged 23.

Dean Farrimond, aged 34, of Eden Grove, Leigh, has been summonsed for two counts of death by dangerous driving and one count of driving with excess alcohol.

A Vauxhall Astra and a Ford Mondeo taxi collided in Twist Lane at the junction with Kendal Grove in Leigh on November 30, 2013.

The driver of the taxi, 59-year-old Kenneth Grimshaw, of Twist Lane, Leigh, suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

Emma Houghton, aged 23 and from the Golborne area, was a passenger in the taxi and taken to hospital with a serious head injury before dying that evening. Farrimond is due to appear at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on June 30.

A further pre-inquest review will take place on October 24 at 3.30pm.
