A 10-year-old boy was left with a broken collar bone and cuts on his head after being hit by a car in Deane.

The young boy was hit by a red Mercedes at 4.45pm yesterday in St Helens Road, Deane.

The incident happened near the junction with Summer Street and paramedics were immediately called.

​The boy was taken to hospital, where it was first thought that his injuries were very serious, but he escaped with a broken collar bone and a cut on his head that needed eight stitches.

The car involved stopped at the scene - no-one was arrested and police are believed to be treating it as an accident.
