Fire fighters called to false alarm at historic Bolton jewellers

The Bolton News: Fire fighters called to false alarm at historic Bolton jeweller Fire fighters called to false alarm at historic Bolton jeweller

A FALSE alarm saw firefighters called to historic jewellers shop Prestons of Bolton after an employee accidentally set off a burglar alarm.

Crews were called to the Edwardian store in Deansgate at around 6pm yesterday after a ‘smoke cloak’ device was activated by a staff member walking down the stairs.

The security alarm lets off smoke to trap potential burglars and this triggered a call to the fire brigade about a potential blaze in the building.

The council tax payer has paid for this error, Pestons should pick up the tab, concern here also if this had gone off during a fire would it have hindered people trying to get out?

Smoke cloak are generally connected to the intruder alarm and isn't armed during normal hrs, unless activated via personal attack systems, ours are anyway.

As for paying for it, I agree however only if the general public are invoiced for some of the stupid things they do.
