A POIGNANT service commemorating Bolton’s armed forces past and present marked the opening of Armed Forces Day.
The day-long tribute to the town’s servicemen began with a service by the Vicar of Bolton Parish Church, Canon Matt Thompson before a wreath-laying ceremony led by the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Martin Donaghy.
Throughout the day Victoria Square will host cadet displays, information stalls and an inter-cadet competition.
There are also First World War history performances taking place in the Bolton Lives Gallery in Bolton Museum at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
The final parade will begin in Victoria Square at 2.45pm before the sunset ceremony and lowering of the Armed Forces Day Flag at 3pm.
