EMMERDALE star Kelvin Fletcher flew the flag for Bolton on Sunday when he raced in front of more than 100,000 racing fans at the British Grand Prix meeting at Silverstone.

Kelvin, who plays Andy Sugden in the ITV soap, was invited to take part in the Porsche Supercup, a 13-lap race which was the curtain raiser to the main Formula One event.

He is no stranger to motor racing as he drives for RLR Msport, which is based at the University of Bolton’s Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering — the only fully-fledged racing team to be based on a university campus.

Kelvin, whose Porsche carried the University of Bolton logo, said after the race: “The drivers were aggressive from the start. I had a poor start and had to play catch-up. I had some great battles and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an unbelievable experience.”

Kelvin finished in 22nd place.
