'Listening' meeting to discuss Royal Bolton Hospital plans

The Bolton News: The Royal Bolton Hospital The Royal Bolton Hospital

HEALTH chiefs will come face-to-face with Bolton residents to speak about the proposed shake-up of hospital care.

People are invited to a “listening” event as part of the Healthier Together consultation.

The review could see the Royal Bolton become one of five “super hospitals” in Greater Manchester.

Bosses from the Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) will be on hand to chat to people from noon until 2.30pm on Friday at the town’s Holiday Inn.

People will have the chance to learn about plans to deliver more care in the community and how hospitals need to change.

Dr Wirin Bhatiani, chairman of Bolton CCG, said: “This event is a great opportunity for Bolton people to find out more about Healthier Together, get involved, and have their say on how healthcare should be delivered in our borough.

“This is just one part of the CCG’s plans to spread the word about Healthier Together this summer.”

The proposed changes, which will see either four or five “super hospitals” created, could save up to 1,500 lives across Greater Manchester a year, according to health bosses.

Healthier Together plans to combine medical teams at all of Greater Manchester’s hos-pitals.

Currently people are more likely to die in the evenings and at weekends because hospitals do not have enough staff.

Healthier Together will mean hospitals share a larger pool of staff and patients are moved between specialist and general hospitals quickly.

Dr Chris Brookes, A&E cons-ultant and medical director of Healthier Together, said: “Our vision is to deliver the best health and care in the country for our population in Greater Manchester. We all want the best care for ourselves and our families.

“In some places, people already receive the best possible care available. In others, the care does not meet the standards we expect.”

They're going to listen to us are they? It'll be the first time this CCG has ever listened to anyone other than the cronies who pass them the brown envelopes.
