IT is not just Germany celebrating World Cup glory — the cooks at Rivington and Blackrod School are too.
Diane Fitton, catering manager at the Horwich school, is celebrating creating the winning recipe for the perfect World Cup celebration cake.
School cooks went head to head in this year’s Environmental Services Challenge Trophy Annual Cooks Competition to create a World Cup Novelty Cake.
The goal was simple, to provide an eight-portion cake to be judged by some of the town’s top food people.
Those taking part included Philip Ogden from Ladybridge High School, Anne Baldwin from Mount St Joseph, Janice Nuttall from Sharples High School and Diane Fitton.
Mrs Fitton, who baked a Portugal cake, said: “I was quite shocked, it is the first time we have won.
“It was very close, there was just one point in it.”
She added: “I think it was the banana flavour of the cake which won over the judges.”
