CHILDREN got stuck into a community clean-up for a Big Bolton Tidy Up campaign.
The campaign was launched four years ago and involves council officers working with schools and community groups to encourage them to help keep their towns and neighbourhoods tidy.
Pupils from Sunning Hill, Brandwood, Pikes Lane, St Ethelbert’s, Haslam Park, Highfield, and St Peter and St Paul primary schools took part, along with pupils from Harper Green School and Bolton Muslim Girls School.
The pupils had support from Bolton Council, the police, Irwell Valley Housing Association, Bolton at Home, McDonald’s staff and the fire service.
Each school collected litter by picking up rubbish from outside their school. Haslam Park School did a litter pick at Haslam Park in Deane Road.
The schools which collected the most rubbish were presented with trophies. Harper Green School collected 44 bags of rubbish and Brandwood Primary School collected 28 bags and three suitcases.
Bolton Muslim Girls School, Highfield Primary School and St Peter and St Paul’s RC Primary School were also named winners for their areas.
