THESE Blackrod Church School pupils are an example to young people everywhere after raising money to support children with Asperger’s syndrome.
The school has been chosen as being one of two outstanding primary schools chosen to have a specialist unit so children with autism will, for the first time, receive the education and support they need in Bolton, rather than being sent out of the borough or placed “inappropriately” in Bolton’s schools.
After hearing her school was one chosen to have the unit, Peyia Cambers-Swords, aged eight, decided to do a sponsored swim to raise money for the unit.
And Jack Matthews, aged six, is planning to do a sponsored walk in the near future.
Headteacher James Royal said: “Peyia did the sponsored swim be herelf. She had set herself a target of £200 and in the end raised £500.
“The money will be used to buy resources for the unit.”
He described both children as inspiring.
