A DRIVER crashed into a fence after apparently suffering a "medical episode" at the wheel.
Stand Lane in Radcliffe was shut by police this afternoon after a white Nissan Qashqai crashed into the fencing of Go Wallpaper at about 2pm.
The car first crashed into a bollard on an island in the middle of the road before destroying a lamp post and coming to a halt in the fence outside the decorating firm.
Police believe the driver, believed to be in his late sixties or early seventies, had a heart attack or seizure at the wheel.
Andrew Davis, who works at Go Wallpaper, said: “The car was only crawling which was lucky as it could have been much worse if he was driving faster.
“After he crashed he was barely conscious and we couldn’t find a pulse so an ambulance was called.
“The car was being followed by a police car and when he first swerved into the middle of the road the officer flashed his lights for the motorist to pull over."
The crash caused about £2,500 of damage.
There were no other passengers and the man’s condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
