A SCHOOL in Bolton is officially world class.

SS Simon and Jude’s CE Primary School has become the first state school in the world to have achieved the highest level possible in delivering the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

The creative curriculum is designed to make learning exciting, active and meaningful through topics and gives children a global perspective on what they are learning.

Headteacher Simon Bramwell said: “To say we are the first UK state school and actually the first state-funded school anywhere in the world to be awarded this mastering level is a tremendous accolade to everyone involved at school — children, parents, staff and governors.

"We are now only one of a handful of schools worldwide to achieve this and due to the dedication of the team we were also the quickest school ever to go from adoption to mastering.”

The school is judged by Ofsted to be good with outstanding features.

Curriculum co-ordinator Liz Peacock added: “The three-day accreditation visit was rigorous and looked in-depth at all aspects of the IPC we deliver in school.

“The team spoke to a number of children, staff, parents and governors — all of who spoke very highly of the curriculum we provide as a school. The mastering award is the cherry on the cake after five years of an incredible journey — a journey we are still on.”

The IPC encourages children to ask questions by making their learning relevant.

Jill Ashmore, Key Stage One leader, said: “The curriculum helps children want to learn. It has ignited a passion for learning both at school and at home.”
