AN action adventure film which transformed the hills of Rivington into the Amazon jungle has scooped three awards.

Sophie’s Fortune: The Treasure of Quetzalcoatl is now available to watch online for free, with producer Phil Meachem hoping families will enjoy it over the summer holidays.

The 27-minute film, which features jungle landscapes, explosive stunts and cinematic special effects, was made on a budget of less than £2,000 and scooped three awards at the Portsmouth International Film Festival.

Mr Meachem, aged 26, from Westhoughton, said: “The film is now available to watch on the website. It would be a good film for families to watch over the summer holidays — something to keep the kids entertained.”

Sophie’s Fortune was nominated for 10 awards at the film festival and won the Best Comedy, Best Score and Best Visual Effects categories.

Mr Meachem said: “It was a black tie event and it was nice to pick up the awards. We are very pleased with the way it has been received so far.

“The film was designed to help people get into the industry. In doing so, it’s so far, so good. The director is currently working on a bigger project.”

The majority of the independent film was shot on location in Rivington, involving a crew of more than 100 people, including director Chris Cronin.

It follows a father’s treasure hunt at a children’s birthday party where imagination takes over, transforming it into an epic Indiana Jones-style adventure, harking back to fun classic films such as The Goonies and Labyrinth.
