BOLTON Rotary Club has broken new ground by installing its first ever female president.

Jean Turton, aged 71, acceded the role for the first time on June 30 when she was handed the reins by outgoing president Alan Smith.

Ms Turton, a former accountancy worker, was more recently a personal carer and has been a member of Bolton Rotary Club for six years.

She will be the president for the next 12 months.

Bolton Rotary Club is one of the founder members of the Rotary movement in Britain.
