THE TV stars in the scrap yard at Metro Salvage have proved a hit on social media — after being soaked by 150 litres of freezing water tipped out of a skip.

Staff at the yard took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge — and then had to queue for their wages wet through.

The lads nominated Bolton celebrities Peter Kay, Vernon Kay, Sara Cox and Big Brother winner Helen Wood after the drenching.

The video of the skip being tipped on to the staff has already attracted more than 53,000 hits and 400 likes on Metro Salvage’s Facebook page.

Yard manager Lee Tuff said: “There were a couple of people asking us on Twitter to get it done and it was my idea to use the skip.

“We did it just before we left work on Friday so people had to wait for their wages freezing cold.”

He added: “We’ve had that much interest in the challenge. Hopefully, someone will show it to the celebrities.

“Hopefully they will take us up on it.”

The Ice Bucket Challenge has become a worldwide phenomenon and donations from participants are funding research into motor neurone disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis as it is known in the United States.

Bolton X-Factor contestant Laura White, who came eighth in the show in 2008, has also completed the challenge, posting a video on her Facebook account, and opted to donate to her chosen charity, the Cats Protection League.

Metro Salvage owners Terry and Lyndsay Walker and their varied members of staff are currently appearing every Friday in BBC1 documentary Scrappers, with the fourth instalment hitting our screens this week.

On the show’s impact on business, Mr Tuff added: “We’re a really busy yard anyway, but we have had a load of emails about the show since it has been on.

“I think it has come over really well — it’s all a bit of fun.”
