CELEBRITY chef Debbie Halls-Evans is proving that home is where the heart is as she prepares to open her first pop-up restaurant in Horwich.

Still reeling with delight after successful appearances at this year’s Bolton Food and Drink Festival, the mum-of-four has not stopped working since she was crowned champion on Channel 4 cookery show The Taste earlier this year.

But despite having her finger in a number of pies, Debbie, who was born in Horwich but lives in Blackrod, believes that there is “no place like home” — so is very excited that her debut pop-up restaurant is at the Cowshed in Winter Hey Lane.

She said: “I love Bolton and I want to build my reputation here before I even think about going anywhere else. There’s no place like home. That’s why I chose to do my first pop-up restaurant in Horwich.

“I’ll be serving a four-course meal and bread matching them. You normally do that with wine but I love carbs so I will be creating artisan bread with flavoured butter to go with the meal, such as black pudding bread with honey whipped butter.

“It will be a really intimate event — so only about 30 people. I hope that I can keep building up interest from then on and the idea is I can pop-up anytime, anywhere, although I will give two weeks’ notice so people can plan their visit.

“Over the last few weeks I’ve realised that pop-up restaurants are what I want to do. I love being nomadic and doing things a little different. So I just hope that people will come and enjoy eating my food as much as I enjoy making it.”

There will be eight pop-up nights this year. The first will be held on Saturday, September 13.
