A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 62-year-old man died from neck injuries.

The victim, Derek Alexander Szostok, died in hospital on Saturday after he was injured in an alleged assault at a house in Moresby Close, Leigh, last Tuesday.

Police went to the street at about 1.50am on Tuesday, August 26, after someone called to report an assault.

They said there was a "disturbance" in which a Mr Szostok, a neighbour, had been injured.

He was taken to hospital, but died at about 4.15pm on Saturday.

A Home Office post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Szostok died as a result of "flexation of the neck".

Now a 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody for questioning.

In a statement issued via the police, Derek's family said: "God bless you brother, you will be sadly missed by all the family.

"God Bless you, say hello to mum for us."

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information to contact them on 0161 8569823 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
