POLICE are hunting a thug who tried to rob a bus driver at knifepoint in Little Hulton..

The hooded attacker produced the knife after boarding the number 36 bus when it stopped, but fell off as the vehicle drove away.

The attacked happened on Thursday, September 4 at 10.30pm on its route along Kenyon Way towards Peel Lane, but police have only just released video footage and details of the incident.

The driver was threatened as the would-be robber pushed his knife through the serving hatch, but fled with nothing after almost becoming trapped in the doors before falling on to the pavement.

Police say the offender had an accomplice. The main offender was described as white, about 5ft 7ins to 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build in his teens. He was wearing a parka type brown coat with fur round the hood.

Det Con Kevin Oakes, from Salford police, said: “This teenager thought he could get on a bus and make threats towards the driver hoping he would hand over the money from his fares.

“However, the bus driver drove off, forcing the man to fall to the floor and off the bus empty handed.

“The CCTV from the bus is extremely clear and we are urging people to take a close look and if they recognise the person in the footage they should contact us. If anyone has any information about the two responsible we are asking them to contact us in complete confidence.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5097.
