A COMMITTED fundraiser came to Bolton as part of a 300-mile charity walk to raise money for a village in Nepal.
Kearsley dog-walker John O’Connell, aged 31, walked through the town centre after setting off from the Macron Stadium towards Farnworth.
Mr O’Connell walked from Edinburgh to Nottingham earlier this month in aid of Thulopatal, a village in the Dolakha region of Nepal. He expects to raise about £5,000.
Mr O’Connell was inspired to raise the money after witnessing first-hand the lack of clean drinking water available to the villagers while he was teaching there earlier this year.
He said: “It was a good feeling walking through Bolton because all my friends and family were there supporting me.
“Most of my donations have come from local people, so I’m really pleased with that.
“The walk was a lot more difficult than I thought, but I wanted to do anything I could to make life easier for the people of Thulopatal.”
More than 30 walkers rallied together to join Mr O’Connell on his walk from Edinburgh to Nottingham. He finished his walk on Thursday.
