FITNESS fanatics are set to tackle the gruelling Bolton Ironman cycling course — without setting foot out of the gym.
Led by David Lloyd gym member Lucy Clark, up to 30 enthusiasts including Jane Counsell and Raj Rehan will cycle the virtual course on static bikes with the images of the route projected on a screen.
Ms Clark, aged 42, who has competed in several Ironman events, has organised the “Iron Spin” event on Saturday to raise money for the disability charity Scope. About 30 members are taking part, and some are raising money for their own special causes, like Cancer Research,” she said.
“Some will do one lap of the course, which is 64 miles, and some will complete two.
“People tend to think that Ironman is too daunting a test, but actually when you have a go it’s surprising what you can do.”
Ms Clark, a conflict and welfare manager around schools in the Salford area, took to the bike herself to put in some practice before Saturday’s event.
