A BOLTON shopping centre is gearing up to host its first student event.

Reality television star Holly Hagan, from MTV’s Geordie Shore, will be at Market Place Shopping Centre to host tomorrow’s student night.

From 5pm to 7pm, the shopping centre will play a host to a live DJ from J2 nightclub and there will be a variety of discounts, competitions and offers for students.

Ahead of her meet and greet with Bolton shoppers, Holly, aged 22, has put Geordie Shore’s success down to the cast being “easy to relate to”.

She says she still cannot believe the fame she has gained from the programme,a spin-off of the American show Jersey Shore based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which launched in May 2011.

Since then the show has gone from strength to strength — the first episode of series eight attracted more than 500,000 viewers.

Holly said: “It’s so weird how far it’s gone. When it first started I took six weeks off work. I never thought it would be like this and last as long as it has. Three and a half years down the line and the ratings are still climbing, and that’s unheard of.

“But I think that there is a reason for that — we’re easy to relate to. We’re just normal.

“Unlike some other shows where the cast were handpicked from programmes like Take Me Out, I worked in a call centre. It was worlds apart from what life is like now, I still can’t believe it.”

As well as meeting and greeting students in Bolton, the 22-year-old will also be bringing her own fashion range with Fashion Bible to the shopping centre to show students that anyone can dress like a star.

She said: “Everyone wants to dress like a celebrity, but not everyone can afford it, so with my range I have made sure that it is both fashionable and affordable, so it’s perfect for students.

“I’m really excited about coming to Bolton. People can come and have a chat about fashion and take pictures.”

Nikki Wilson-Cook, centre manager at Market Place Shopping Centre, said: “With the student population in Bolton being bigger and better than ever it was only right to kick off the academic journey in Bolton with a night at the town’s student style hub — Market Place.

“With the likes of Bank, Warehouse and db3 offering amazing discounts on the night and a whole host of giveaways, such as a satchel from Oasis and a hamper from Costa Coffee, the student night will be a great introduction to our high street retailers and independents alike.”
