FOOTBALL agent Tony McGill said he was both “disappointed and relieved” after a judge accepted his version of events surrounding the contentious transfer of Gavin McCann to Bolton Wanderers in 2007 — despite the final ruling going against him.

Mr McGill was unsuccessful in his pursuit of £300,000 plus costs from Bolton Wanderers and The Sport and Entertainment Media Group (SEM), a judge ruled yesterday.

But he has said he will appeal the verdict after losing the case at Manchester Civil Justice Centre yesterday.

Mr McGill said: “I am naturally disappointed having heard the judge accept my evidence and the evidence of my witnesses.

“The judge has accepted every piece of our version of events and has dismissed a lot of that put forward by the defendants.

“In that respect there is obviously relief having fought for seven years to get the truth that we now have it.”

Judge David Waksman reached his verdict, on the grounds that there was no proof that Mr McCann would have signed an agreement with Mr McGill.

The judge also described his verdict result as “unfortunate” given that he had upheld Mr McGill's version of events.

Mr McGill added: “I have failed on a point of law. Having been made aware of the verdict some weeks ago, I have already put the foundations in place for an appeal and will be taking further legal advice.”
