HUNDREDS of college and university students flocked to a shopping centre for a new “student night”.

The Market Place was hosting the shopping centre's first freshers’ week event. Students from Bolton College and the University of Bolton were treated to a live music from DJs from the J2 nightclub along with a variety of discounts, competitions and offers.

Reality TV personality Holly Hagan, who features on the show Geordie Shore, hosted the event along with a meet and greet session in a specially set up shop which also housed her clothing line Fashion Bible.

She said: “I always have a good time when I come to Bolton. Last time I went to J2 nightclub and loved it.”

As students queued up eager to meet their TV idol, they were treated to street dance displays and club music.

Megan Tonge, aged 16, who studies hairdressing at Bolton College, said: “I live in Farnworth so I've always enjoyed coming to the town centre to shop. It's much better now for young people too.”

Beaky Lawson, aged 20, who is in her final year of health and social care at the university, said: “I’ve lived in Bolton now for three years but this is the first student event like this I've been to here.”

Philip Hirst, aged 22, a fine art student at university, said: “Like most students, I came here for the freebies although my friend wants to meet Holly first.”

Shopping centre manager Nikki Wilson-Cook added: “As far as I know this is the first student event that the Market Place has done.

“The university and college are part of our town and this was all about students.”
