SIX teenagers have been arrested in connection with a vandalism rampage at a bus depot.

Yobs smashed up 10 buses belonging to Cumfy Bus in a depot in Cuthbert Street on June 20, causing an estimated £60,000 of damage.

CCTV footage caught the vandalism, which also saw perpetrators jump on the roofs of the vehicles and stick their fingers up at security cameras Police have confirmed that they have arrested five 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old.

All six boys have been bailed until Sunday.

It is understood that parents of one of those arrested saw coverage of the incident in The Bolton News and urged the teenager to hand himself in.

PC Matt Blakeley, from Bolton South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I can confirm that six youths have been interviewed in relation to the criminal damage, and are now on police bail while further enquiries are conducted.”

The vandalism left glass all over the buses and the yard, with the cameras catching the vandals jumping on the roofs of the buses.

Windows on buses were smashed, with the vandals using bricks, fire extinguishers and emergency hammers from inside the vehicles to cause the damage.

Ben Scowcroft, duty super-visor at Cumfy Bus in Bolton, said: “It was a big disa-ppointment at the time as we were a new firm and wanted to make our mark in Bolton.

“It is good that police have made some arrests now. We were back to normal very quickly after the incident, running all 10 services the next day, vehicles were repaired.”

The buses, which are used for contracts across the borough, were damaged along with four vehicles which belonged to the depot’s owner.

The Southport-based family-run firm, which started operating in Bolton in June 2013, was faced with a £25,000 insurance excess to repair the damage caused in the wreck-ing spree.
