TRANSPORT bosses are planning to to axe a bus service between Bolton and Rawtenstall.

Rossendale Transport is planning to withdraw the majority of hourly 273 services, leaving the two mile long Bradshaw Road without a bus from October 26.

The bus will still run between Monday and Saturday from Bolton at 5.18pm and 6.18pm and from Rawtenstall at 7.15am on weekdays and 8.15am on Saturdays.

Now Bradshaw councillor Stuart Haslam is launching a last ditch attempt to save the service.

He said that leaving residents around Bradshaw Road without a regular service is unacceptable — and could affect pupils going to Canon Slade School.

He said: “To reduce a bus that was previously running once an hour to just two buses from Bolton is not going to do.

“They are saying that there’s only one unique user who will be deprived when Bradshaw Road is missed out, but I am aware that this is a well-used service.

“People around that area who depend on that service are elderly and don’t have access to car.”

Cllr Haslam has already written to Rossendale Transport to request a meeting.

He has also requested that officers from Transport for Greater Manchester meet with the company.

He is asking residents to contact him to voice their concerns by emailing stuart.haslam@bolton.gov.uk
