HAPPY couple Prab and Beth Singh enjoyed not one big day, but two.

And the television cameras were there to capture all the special moments as the pair tied the knot at their Christian and Sikh ceremonies.

Mr Singh, a 35-year-old Sikh and Mrs Singh, a 24-year-old Christian, agreed to appear in Sky Living series Hitched after experiencing racism as a mixed-faith couple.

The documentary series films a group of newlywed couples from the day they say ‘I do’ to their first anniversary — statistically the trickiest period of matrimony.

Mr Singh, of Hough Fold Way, Harwood, said: “It’s about the trials and tribulations of living with someone and the importance of marriage and why people do it.

“We are both pretty religious people but we have different religous faiths.

“We are from two different religions, two different cultures and we make it work. We all celebrate Christmas and Diwali together.”

Mr Singh, who runs the North West Theatre Arts Company, experiences racism on a daily basis, including comments in the street or on nights out, and that he has been branded a terrorist.

He said: “Racial and cultural conflict is in the news all the time. I think that’s why we were an interesting couple to Sky.

“Beth is a singer. If we’re at a working men’s club, they don’t appreciate me being there. But if you want something to work, you can make it work.

The pair met while Mr Singh was performing at a show. They were friends for two-and-a-half years before getting together in 2010. They married at Christ’s Church, Harwood, followed by a reception at Smithills Hall, in August 2012, followed a week later with a Sikh ceremony in Coventry, where Manchester-born Mr Singh has family. Both ceremonies were attended by 250 guests, followed by a honeymoon to Mauritius.

Former Canon Slade School pupil Mrs Singh, a teaching assistant at St John Primary School, Bromley Cross, said: “I enjoyed the experience of filming. Watching it back has been cool. It’s been nice to see the weddings and all we got up to that year. It brought back some lovely memories. It was important to us to have both weddings and have the marriage recognised in both faiths. What girl doesn’t want to have two weddings?”

The final episode of Hitched is on Sky Living on Sunday and the series in being repeated on Sky LivingIt on Saturdays, at 7pm.
