A BURGLAR was caught by police after becoming trapped inside Cash Converters in Deansgate.

Jon Lambert had only been out of prison for three weeks after serving a sentence for drug dealing when he committed the burglary in the early hours of September 10, Bolton Crown Court heard.

Andrew Long, prosecuting, told how police were alerted by a burglar alarm at the premises at 2.30am and found a metal window covering at the rear of the building had been prised open.

Mr Long said an accomplice managed to escape but Lambert got stuck. Damage estimated at £2,000 was caused to the property.

The court was told that Lambert was taken to hospital for treatment after police noticed an injury to his arm, which had developed septicaemia.

Anthony Parkinson, defending, said Lambert was now due to have the lower part of his arm amputated.

He added that Lambert had wanted to stay away from crime after coming out of prison.

“However, he felt some pressure to commit this offence as a result of a drug debt from some time ago,” he said.

Lambert, aged 32, of Weaste Road, Salford, pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal.

Recorder Robert Farley QC sentenced Lambert to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months.

He will also be subject to supervision for nine months.
