THE cricket season may be over — but the firework season started with a bang at Bradshaw Cricket Club.

Hundreds of spectators turned up to the club’s ground in Rigby Lane to watch the spectacular 24-minute show on Saturday.

As well as a firework display, there was a funfair with rides for adults and children.

The event, which is aimed at raising funds for the club, is now in its 42nd year and is still proving to be a “banging success”.

This year’s event raised about £5,000 for the club.

Mike Buckley, the event’s organiser and secretary of Bradshaw Cricket Club, said: “It’s a great community event which has stood the test of time.

“People always get excited when they see the fireworks and there’s always a good buzz here.

“It’s great to see kids turning up with their parents and grandparents. It’s a real family event.”

Cat Laycock, aged 27, of Heaton, came with her son Jamaal, aged 10.

Miss Laycock said: “It’s something a bit different before Bonfire Night. It’s been nice weather for it and it’s always great for the children.

“It’s lovely, as a mother, to see how happy they are. It is definitely money well spent.”

Jamaal added: “I like the rides and games mostly — the fireworks are amazing. I’ve enjoyed it a lot.”

Leanne Hayes, aged 39, of Harwood, came with her two daughters.

Mrs Hayes said: “I love seeing the kids’ faces. They absolutely love this event and we come every year.”

Daughter Olivia, aged six, said: “I really like seeing the fireworks and going on all the rides.”

Providing the magic and sparkle on the night were Titanium Fireworks, who have also provided fireworksfor the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
