A BOLTON MP has condemned vandalism at Westhoughton train.

Volunteers from the Friends of Westhoughton Station invited Julie Hilling, the MP for Bolton West, to see the improved platforms after they spent many hours tidying the area and planting trees.

The Bolton News reported earlier this month how yobs uprooted plants and stole ornaments, which have yet to be returned. Ms Hilling said she was impressed by the transformation of the station thanks to the work of the Friends, and urged people to respect the area.

She said: “Their work has unfortunately being blighted with recent vandalism and thefts of their work.

“It’s terrible to hear about such incidents when local people have worked so hard to create something so beautiful.

“I hope the guilty party returns the ornaments so that everyone can continue to enjoy them.

“Even if you do not travel from the station, I would encourage everyone to go and have a look at it.

“It really is something worth seeing.”

The Friends of West-houghton Station carry out work on the platforms off Church Street on the first and third Sundays of the month.
