BOLTONIANS swapped sports kits for computers when they attended a training session at Amir Khan’s gym.

The session took place at the Gloves Community Centre in the town centre and was run by energy group E.ON as part of Get Online Week.

It was run by digital experts who taught members of the community how to help their friends, relatives and customers improve their digital skills.

During the session, four local people were trained to become ‘Digital Champions’ in order to get more people online and make day-to-day tasks such as paying bills, shopping, online banking and signing up to events easier.

Simon Gilby, digital excellence manager at E.ON, said: “The event at Gloves Community Centre in Bolton was very worthwhile.

“The internet has become a valuable way for us to help our customers use and pay for no more energy than they need, so we’re keen to help as many people as we can improve their digital skills. This training session at Amir Khan’s gym is just one of the events we’re holding as part of the Go ON UK campaign to help us to achieve this.”

Working with a number of partners, Go ON UK is aiming to reduce the number of people in the region who are without basic online skills.

The session was also run in partnership with not-for-profit social enterprise the Tinder Foundation.

This foundation supports thousands of community partners, enabling them to be smarter in how they use digital technology.
