IT WAS fun all the way as a much-loved community centre re-opened after a makeover.

The Meadowside Centre in Tonge Fold was given a complete revamp by charity Raise the Youth Foundation and Bolton At Home and now has an internet cafe and space for craft sessions.

Around 80 residents attended the official opening as ward councillor Elaine Sherrington cut the ribbon.

To mark the occasion football sessions were laid on by Bolton Wanderers Community Trust — with mascot Lofty the Lion offering a helping hand — as well as craft workshops, beauty treatments, reflexology and reiki provided by business Beauty on Wheels and Harmony Hands.

Meanwhile, the Co-Op on Ainsworth Lane provided free cake and biscuits for the event, and committed to donating bread and hot cross buns on a regular basis.

Cllr Sherrington said she was delighted to re-launch the centre in Meadowside Avenue. She added: “Residents have been passionate about having a community centre that’s fit for all and appeals to different generations.”

Tonge Fold resident Janet Sixsmith said: “We’re so pleased with how the centre looks. It’s a pleasant and comfortable place where we can spend time with our community.”

B&Q in Bolton donated the paints and materials used to redecorate the centre, which was done by members of the Raise The Youth Foundation and directors from Bolton At Home’s technical services.

Sarah Taylor, Community Development Officer at Bolton at Home, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who donated or helped to make the re-launch a success, especially the Golden Oldies group who cleaned the centre, handed out leaflets and have welcomed the changes at Meadowside for the benefit of the rest of the community.”
