YOUNGSTERS shared their creative flare with visiting children’s poet Ian Bland.

Pupils of all ages at Holy Infant and St Anthony RC Primary School in Astley Bridge spent the day penning their finest poetry with Mr Bland.

He spoke about poetry in school assembly and youngsters were encouraged to have a go themselves.

School literacy co-ordinator Nicola McGlashan said poetry was an ideal way to encourage pupils to write.

Mrs McGlashan said: “Ian kicked the day off with an uplifting assembly about poetry.

“He then held workshops with children in all of year groups. We then shared all of our of new poetry, which was fantastic.

“The children absolutely loved learning about poetry and having a go themselves. Ian was brilliant with them.

“Our focus is to get pupils writing and show them that they can all do it well.”
