A FUNDRAISING campaign for tragic mum Zoe Milton has reached £50,000 — just two months after it was started.

Zoe, from Horwich, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in December last year, less than 12 months after giving birth to son Charlie.

She died on September 21 — the day after a campaign in her honour reached £10,000.

The campaign, which is to raise funds for Bolton Hospice, went viral after people heard about Zoe on Facebook.

The 28-year-old, who worked at Bolton Magistrates Court, was a keen horse rider.

And after hearing about her story, Jane Walker, from Active Rider, offered to raise funds to care for Zoe’s horse Romeo.

The first donation for Mrs Walker’s campaign came in August.

Since then, the hospice has received more than 1,000 donations and the campaign raised £40,000 in just one month.

It will remain open until November 10 and Mrs Walker is aiming to raise £70,000 by the time it closes.

Mrs Walker, aged 48, from Rossendale, said: “It’s a phenomenal amount, but my message to people is clear — the fundraising isn’t over yet.

“The way that the community has got together to raise this much is astonishing."

The money raised by Mrs Walker will pay for the specialist 24-hour care of seven inpatients at Bolton Hospice.

It will cover the costs of the care they receive from the hospice’s doctors, nurses and physiotherapists, to the specific meals prepared each day to meet their individual requirements.

Leigh Vallance, chief executive of Bolton Hospice, said: “What is truly touching and inspiring is that many people didn’t know Zoe directly but have been so touched by her story to do something remarkable.

“Her power to inspire positive action in others continues to reverberate within all of us.

“The money people are raising makes a powerful difference to people’s lives.”

A dressage day in Zoe’s memory will take place at Abram Hall Ring Club, near Wigan, where she used to ride, on October 26.

Dozens of celebrities and organisations from the horse riding community have donated auction prizes, including a chance to ride an Olympic medal-winning horse, a private lesson with eventing champion Andrew Nicholson and spending the day with eventer Phoebe Buckley.
