TRADERS from across the globe have descended on Bolton for this weekend’s continental market.

The market in Victoria Square has been running since Thursday and closes tomorrow evening, with a variety of food from across Europe, Africa and Asia available.

Also on offer are ornaments, jewellery and gifts, with traders hoping for some sunny weather this weekend to bring out the crowds.

Giovanni Zampieri, whose stall is packed with Italian delicacies, said: “A lot of people can be surprised coming here because they haven’t seen some of our products before, but they always go down well.

“Our nougat is always popular and the cannoli too — people like it because they’ve see it in The Godfather or The Sopranos.”

Richard Giles, who is selling hand-crafted wooden ornaments ranging from small accessories to a £400 carving of a lion, has been been surprised with trading so far.

“Yesterday surprised me — it’s been better than I was expecting,” he said.

Russell Lindsay, aged 41, from Westhoughton, sampled the continental pastries on sale.

He said: “They’re delicious. I actually had no idea the market was going to be here — but it’s a great surprise.”
