STAFF and pupils at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Horwich have raised £140 for the Breast Cancer Campaign after a Wear It Pink Day on Friday.

Children, teachers and parents were all encouraged to wear something pink and donate to the charity, which supports innovative research into curing breast cancer across the UK and Ireland.

Janet McKinlay, the school’s headteacher, said: “Fundraising is at the heart of St Mary’s school community.

“The pupils realise that helping others is one way to make a difference in society.”

The school had previously raised more than £200 for Macmillan Cancer Research and the Lullaby Trust with an afternoon tea party last month.

Hundreds of thousands of people take part in Wear It Pink across the country.

Breast Cancer Campaign currently funds around 100 projects, worth more than £16 million in 35 locations across the UK and Ireland.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is held every October and was launched 20 years ago.

The campaign aims to help women be better aware of the common symptoms and seek help as early as possible, increasing the chance of survival.
