A collision involving two cars on the motorway resulted in delays for motorists.
Officers from the Highways Agency and the North West Motorway Police closed the sliproad to the A666 from the M61 northbound for almost three house while dealing with the accident.
They were called to the scene near Kearsley at 5pm after receiving reports of a crash involving two vehicles.
We are dealing with an RTC M61 NB from A580, the slip for the A666 NB is currently closed due to this.

One car was particularly badly damaged, and rescue agencies decided to close the sliproad while attending to the incident.
Traffic was diverted to junction four of the M61 and re-routed southbound, but the lane has now re-opened.
