FORMER Whites star Fabrice Muamba is "top of the league" — after the All Star Choir shot up to number one in the charts.

The official BBC Children In Need charity single, featuring an all-star choir of famous faces has topped the charts.

Actresses Alison Steadman and Linda Robson, EastEnders actor Nitin Ginatra, Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood, Countryfile's John Craven, Blue Peter's Radzi Chinyanganya, Bake Off co-host Mel Giedroyc, comedian Jo Brand, rugby player Margaret "The Machine" Alphonsi, Radio 1 DJ Alice Levine and actor Larry Lamb are among the untrained voices who appear on the track.

They sing alongside children from various music projects across the UK who have been supported by BBC Children in Need.

The track has racked up a combined chart sales tally of more than 120,000 in the last seven days, as well as being the most physically purchased single of the week.

The group beat off competition from Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Meghan Trainor, Tom Odell's popular John Lewis track and new entries from Sam Smith, The Veronicas and Kendrick Lamar.

Gareth Malone said: "When we started singing, getting a number 1 seemed an impossible dream, so to see this group of unlikely choristers at the top of the charts today is amazing. I'm so grateful to the British public for getting behind it, and am extremely proud to be number 1, with this choir, in Children in Need week. It's wonderful that so many children helped too, by being on the record."
