DRUGS worth more than £33,000 have been seized by police in a raid on a "drying room" in Bolton town centre.

Police raided the flat in St George's Road this morning after a tip-off, where they found a "drying room" - where cannabis leaves are taken after being harvested so they can then be sold.

About 3.9kg of the drug was found drying in a makeshift tent, with an estimated street value of £33,920.

Four officers raided the flat and arrested a man who turned up as they were searching the place.

PC Joe Burrows said: "We are very happy with they way the operation went - more drugs have been taken off the streets.

"The warrant was as a result of information we had received. In this case we think it was the pungent smell which alerted people.

"The cannabis was days from being sold — it sells at £10 per gram."

This the second major cannabis raid in Bolton in the last few weeks.

Drugs with a street value of £200,000 were taken off the streets after police found a cannabis farm in an empty shop.

More than 100 cannabis plants were found in the basement of the shop in Chorley Old Road, Bolton.

A fire started in a house where cannabis plants were being grown in Bolton Road, Atherton, earlier this week.
