A MOTORCYCLIST was hurled 15 metres from his bike after crashing into a van.

The teenager suffered a suspected broken leg and was treated at the roadside for his injuries, which were not said to be life-threatening.

The crash happened at 9.05am in Bury Road, at the junction with Bradford Street, and police and the ambulance service were called.

It is understood that the van was turning right into Bury Road when it collided with the motorbike, knocking the rider, thought to be aged 18, off.

A passing cyclist, who spoke to the victim and rang his father to tell him about the crash, said: "I was just moving up Bury Road and the motorbike has just gone into the side of a van.

"The driver was in shock and I was just trying to say to him that the injured guy was okay and not going to die.

"I just heard this screaming and saw him lying in the road, about 15 metres from his bike. It went right through me.

"The ambulance was there quite quickly and he seemed to be okay; he was conscious and talking."

Bradford Street was closed while the emergency services were at the scene.
