AN elderly resident was taken to hospital after a kitchen fire in Breightmet.
Firefighters were called to a house in Breightmet Drive at 3.30pm after the cooker area of the kitchen caught fire.
The elderly resident was alerted to the blaze after a smoke alarm sounded and they were able to put it out and escape.
Fire crews isolated the gas supply to the house to make the area safe.
The resident was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital.
Nigel Booth, watch manager at Bolton North fire station said: "This goes to show the importance of having a a working smoke alarm in your house."
