A BOLTON theatre has teamed up with a prestigious drama school to give disabled young people an insight into acting.

Staff at the Octagon Theatre are delighted to be working with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) to provide an intimate and informative induction into the world of professional acting.

The free workshop is open to young people with disabilities, between the ages of 16 and 28, and will take place in the Octagon’s Hospitality Suite, on Friday, December 19.

Whether a seasoned amateur actor, a fan of the theatre or just curious as to what drama is all about, people are being encouraged to apply to take part in what promises to be an exciting and entertaining workshop.

Elizabeth Newman, associate director of the Octagon Theatre who will be working with attendees on the day, said: “It’s great to be working with RADA on this important project.

"At the Octagon, we pride ourselves on our inclusive practice and we’re thrilled that RADA are looking to engage more young artists with disabilities.

"I admire the work of Rachel Bagshaw (Theatre Director, RADA, Young Vic, Graeae Theatre) very much, so it’ll be great to have her working in the building.”

Run by tutors from RADA, the session will include the development and exploration of technical skills and text work and the chance to ask questions.

It will also provide attendees with the opportunity to develop and employ training methods used by professional actors.

RADA, established in 1904, has built a reputation as a world-renowned centre of excellence, with a huge number of celebrated graduates starting their careers on the stage of the academy’s student productions.

Encouraging the opportunity for self-development in the arts — regardless of age, background, disability, gender, nationality, political persuasion, race, religious belief or sexual orientation — the workshop aims to also provide information regarding life at drama school and how to apply.

Interested parties are advised to fill in the workshop application form, which can be downloaded from the Octagon website and return it no later than Friday, December 12.
