TWO talented schoolgirls are celebrating after scooping top prize in our crafty Christmas contest.

Libbi Thomas, aged seven, and Keira-Leigh Cowell, aged 10, have won The Bolton News's Design a Card competition.

Thousands of children from dozens of schools across Bolton took part and our judges had a difficult time choosing from the fantastic designs to arrive at a shortlist.

Readers voted in their thousands and Libbi and Keira, who both attend St Teresa’s RC Primary School in Little Lever, got the most votes.

Libbi, who put a fairy on her card, won in the four-to-seven age group category and will receive a mountain bike from Decathlon and a family ticket for the Winter Wonderland in Victoria Square.

Libbi's mother, Zoe, said: "I'm so proud of her for winning. She has done really well."

Keira, who entered a snowman design, won in the eight-to-11 category and will receive the same prizes.

"I was so surprised to find out that I had won. It is like having an early Christmas present," said Keira, who entered with the help of parents Lee-John Ryan and Amanda Cowell.

The runners up in the four-to-seven age group category were Kiera Stillwell, aged six and Lucy Mulholland, aged seven.

The runners up in the eight-to-11 age group category were Hannah Tipping, aged 10, and Sam Leighton, aged 11.

They will win prizes ranging from 10-pin bowling tickets for Hollywood Bowl, Middlebrook, to tickets for Alice in Wonderland at The Octagon, and chocolate from Slattery in Whitefield.

The winners will be looking forward to their trip to the Winter Wonderland, which this year offers more attractions than ever.

The ice rink has returned to Victoria Square and this year it is bigger than ever and there is a cafe so people can enjoy a warm drink and watch their loved ones skate.

For those who prefer the view of Bolton from above, the Giant Wheel will be opening in Victoria Square on December 11.

Each gondola holds a maximum of six people, so why not step aboard with your friends and family.

New for this year is the thrilling snow slide in Newport Street.

People can climb the stairs and slide down a 50m slope into an area monitored by safety staff.

With all tickets at just £4 and offering three rides, you are sure to come back for more.

Younger visitors to the town centre will love the Santa's Grotto in Victoria Square.

The busiest man in the world at this time of the year is dropping by to say "hello".

Father Christmas will be there every Thursday and Sunday until December 21 and you can meet the man himself and take home a sale gift, all for just £1.

You can also by a Trio ticket, which gives you entry to the ice rink, big wheel and snow slide.
