LOVEBOAT ,, ERASURE

(Mute Records)

Much loved duo Erasure, Andy Bell and Vince Clarke, have returned with a release that mingles pop and folk so solidly the forms are blurred beyond recognition. A follow-on to 1997's pop surprise Cowboy, Loveboat is hardly groundbreaking, but it's steady and sure of itself. Engaging the listener as much with its confidence as its brilliance. The track Moon and The Sky is a highlight distinguished by its vocals. A definite for fans and a good introduction for the uninitiated.

SHE BANGS ,, RICKY MARTIN

(Columbia)

The Latino heart-throb is back doing what he does best ,, transforming the world's living rooms into Spanish piazzas and making even the darkest winter night take on sultry summer notes. She Bangs, Martin's new single, marks a move away from the boring ballads which have plagued his last few releases. This number is hot, rhythmic and guaranteed to have you and your gran up and dancing. The Spanish version is best as you don't have to endure the lyrics.

OUR AIM IS TO SATISFY RED SNAPPER ,, RED SNAPPER

(Warp)

Red Snapper's aim is to satisfy and the band certainly do. This release follows a two year absence and the time away has obviously being well spent as the album is an ecclectic, tight and slightly eccentric mix of twisted funk and soulful ballads. This album may not get you dancing but it will certainly have you rooted to the spot listening. The celebrated MC Det and Karim Kendra also feature, and add mellifluous vocals and distinctive raps.
