CAMPAIGNERS will hit back at Bolton at Home's "insensitive" Christmas cards tomorrow by delivering their own cards to the organisation's offices.

Bolton Against Bedroom Tax activists are organising the stunt after after it emerged the housing association sent out festive greeting cards to some tenants reminding them of how much rent they owe.

Protesters will be joined by Father Christmas as they sing carols in response to the cards, which they describe as "cynical".

The campaign group said the cards have caused distress and upset — and say tomorrow's festive gathering will also highlight their campaign for the borough to back a "no evictions" policy.

They will gather outside Bolton at Home offices in Waters Meeting Road at noon.

Chris Chilton, media officer for Bolton Against Bedroom Tax, said: "This is in response to Bolton at Home sending out the cards.

"They have used the season of good will to remind people of their arrears with the implied threat that they could lose their homes."

Bolton at Home chief executive Jon Lord said: "We’re sorry to anyone who we’ve offended or upset by sending out this type of card and so close to Christmas.

“We do a lot to help our customers with debt and money advice, budgeting and payment plans.

“As a responsible landlord, we need to make sure people are aware of their rent balance, the need to pay their arrears and, critically, the support we can offer them.”
