CARING Bolton firefighters have helped a homeless lady find a roof over her head just in time for Christmas.

The woman lit some rubbish on fire in a bid to keep herself warm, in St Edmond Street on Saturday November 22.

Crews from Bolton Central came out to extinguish the fire as it was generating a lot of smoke.

However, the incident touched the hearts of firefighters and they got in touch with Urban Outreach, Bolton’s homeless service, to see if they could do more.

As a result, the rough sleeper has been staying in a local B&B and, after viewing a property, is soon to receive the keys to a new home.

Councillor David Acton, chair of the Greater Manchester Fire Authority, said: “It is stories like this that really represent what we are all about.

“These firefighters have taken the time to go the extra mile and have had the community at heart which makes me really proud.

"I would like to thank each and every one of them for all their hard work.”
