A DISGUSTED dad-of-three claims his recycling bin has not been collected for more than a month.

Matthew Pennington says that binmen have missed the last two collections, which are fortnightly, on his road in Darcy Lever.

The first collection was missed on December 11, and then the second — which was rescheduled from Christmas Day to December 27 — was also not collected.

Mr Pennington says the last time his recycling bin was collected was November 27 — but his general waste black bin, which is picked up on a different day, has been emptied.

Mr Pennington, of Top O' Th' Gorses, said: "It's started to get really awful now because the rubbish is spilling out the top of the bin. My bin is totally full with cans spilling out and I've had to start putting them into carrier bags. It's not just my bin too — the whole street has been missed.

"I rang the council the first time and they said they'd pick it up at the next collection — but they didn't. I've not been able to contact them this time because it's been Christmas.

"It's awful seeing it so full, and having three children means it piles up really quickly."

The 45-year-old, who himself is a binman and works in Manchester, lives on a road situated within Leverhulme Park with his wife Joanne and their three children, and admits it can be difficult to find, but he says the binmen know how to access the road.

He said: "If I missed a road on my round, I'd have to go back out and complete it.

"We live literally in Leverhulme Park and to get to us you have to come over a weight limit bridge. I appreciate it is difficult to get to if you don't know where you're going, but the bin men know where we are.

"When I rang to complain the council said there were cars in the way so they can't get through, but they managed to empty the black bin last week, so goodness knows what's going on.

"I just want it moving before it starts attracting rats."

Bolton Council were unavailable for comment as we went to press.
