A WOMAN suffered burns during a fire at a house in Leigh.

The blaze, which was caused by an electrical fault, caught a curtain and spread to the kitchen and conservatory of the semi-detached house, in Letcombe Close.

The 60-year-old woman suffering burns to both hands as she left the house and called the fire service.

She was also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by paramedics, and taken to hospital for further checks.

Fire crews from Leigh, Atherton and Hindley attended the incident, and spent about two hours putting out the blaze.

The woman was out of the house before firefighters arrived, at about 6.30pm.

Craig Cubbins, watch manager at Leigh fire station, said: "The lady was in the house on her own with her dogs, and they all got out before we got there.

"She inhaled quite a bit of smoke and burned her hands as she got out of the house, but she managed to call us out.

"The kitchen and the conservatory was 100 per cent damaged by the fire, and the majority of the house of completely blacked out because of the smoke.

"We have arranged to go back to the house to check if there is anything we can do to help clean up."
