THE show went on for the cast of Phoenix Nights Live after Ted Robbins collapsed on the opening night of the 15 date run.

During the second performance of the show, Peter Kay is led a standing ovation to the 59-year-old comic, who plays Den Perry, the show's villain and rival club owner.

He made the emotional tribute while in character as the Phoenix club's bouncer, Max.

On Twitter, members of the audience at Sunday's show at the Manchester Arena said that the script had been adapted because of Mr Robbins' absence.

Earlier, on his Facebook account, Peter said: "My thoughts, prayers and love to Ted, Judy and all of the family.

"So happy that Ted is in right place and getting the care he needs. Thanks to the audience, cast and crew for being so understanding last night."

The venue's Twitter account said that the second show opened to "massive" applause, and confirmed that all of the scheduled Phoenix Nights shows will continue as planned.

Justin Moorhouse, who plays Young Kenny, tweeted: "I don’t mind admitting felt a bit weird doing show tonight. Glad we did. Touched by audience reaction for Ted at end."

Paddy McGuiness tweeted: "We did it!!!! Thanks to everyone who came along, glad you enjoyed yourself. In bed now, same again tomorrow! N'night."

Neil Fitzmaurice, who plays DJ Ray Von, tweeted: "Just home after an amazing night at the MEN arena! Thank you for being an incredible audience! Truly grateful for your generosity! SHABBA!"

Mr Robbins remains in Wythenshawe Hospital, where his wife Judy said he is "doing well".
