THE BROTHER of celebrity DJ Sara Cox has welcomed the jailing of two Bolton men who broke into his garage.

Robert Cox, who is an artist, was stunned when the pair stole £720 worth of gardening equipment from his property in Arthur Lane, Ainsworth, but got revenge by providing police with a crystal clear CCTV image of one of the culprits.

Sara posted the image to her 742,000 Twitter followers in a bid to catch them and police arrested them five hours later.

They are Gary Foulkes, aged 33, of Ashness Place, Breightmet, and his brother Barry Foulkes, aged 28, of Angle Street, Tonge Moor.

The pair appeared at Bury magistrates on January 12 and admitted stealing the items, which included two hedge trimmers, a circular chainsaw and a leaf sucker.

At a further hearing on Wednesday, Barry Foulkes was jailed for 12 weeks and Gary Foulkes was jailed for 16 weeks.

They were each ordered to pay £360 compensation to Mr Cox.

After the hearing, Mr Cox said: "It is a positive outcome because they were caught by the police and put through the court process quite speedily and they have received a sentence and a compensation order.

"It would be nice to think that they can change, and mend their ways after coming out of prison."

He added: "This case shows that the police are effective when they have got evidence to help them do what they do.

"I put the CCTV still online and police knew who it was before they even came to see me.

"I'm grateful that there is a compensation order because spring is coming up and I will have to go out and buy new gardening equipment to look after my garden.

"I think the compensation system is a positive thing. It makes you feel like justice has been done.

"That said, it still doesn't feel nice when a crime like this happens to you and it makes me think about all the burglary victims who don't have CCTV."
